School Readiness Support

At LearnSpace, we provide specialist support to help children transition to school, where it is more than what early childhood and education systems provide. Sometimes children may need help to join early childhood learning and school settings. These supports are specifically to help children use services that all young children are entitled to access.

Our school readiness support focuses on skill development that prepare children for school life and building their independence and confidence as they make the leap from kindergarten to prep. Just like our Early Intervention Therapy, we focus on the five key domains that are extremely important for growth and development - social and emotional awareness, communication and language skills, independence and confidence building, fine motor skills, and cognitive skills. Children learn through engaging and hands-on experiences that introduces them to school concepts.

  • Routines and transitioning between activities give children an insight into classroom procedures. It also helps children to develop self-control, independence, and decision making skills. This bridges the gap between kindy and prep, allowing children to transition to school with confidence.

  • Understanding rules and appropriate classroom behaviour helps children learn positive, responsible behaviour and supports them in meeting teacher and school expectations.

  • By introducing structured activities along with play and intentional teaching, we help children to understand how school classroom works. This also builds their independence, confidence, resilience and problem-solving skills.

  • Developing self and emotional regulation so children can understand what is happening around them and manage their social interactions, behaviour, and emotional reactions.

  • Fine motor skills are essential for performing everyday skills in both academic and play-based activities. Children in the early years need multiple opportunities to work, exercise and strengthen the small muscles in their fingers and hands. It helps develop greater independence in children as it allows them to perform tasks such as writing, eating, and dressing themselves. Fine motor activities also enhance hand-eye coordination and creativity which are essential skills in children’s overall development.

To ensure a successful transition to school, we work with your child to create something very special in preparation for big school – A Book About Me for My Teachers. Give a copy of this book to your child’s teacher on their first day of school so they know all about your child’s strengths, likes, interests, and areas of growth, as well as how they learn best and how they can be supported.

Our support is tailored to each child’s developmental needs and goals outlined in their NDIS plan.
